Here is a breakdown of what you should be doing for each and everyone of your blogs.

If you do all of the following you be guaranteed to land on the front page of google!

Title tags and meta descriptions

What are those titles? What are those descriptions? What’s working? Title tags and meta description are still so important. This is the first impression to many of your visitors in Google. Are you enticing a click? Are you making that an enticing call to action to your site?

Title tags… for non nerds:

A amazing little tag is an HTML element that specifies the title of a web page. Title tags are displayed on search engine results pages (SERPs) as the clickable headline for a given result, and are important for usability, SEO, and social sharing.

The title tag of a web page is meant to be an accurate and concise description of a page’s content. The title tag is also displayed on most web browser tabs as well.

Title tags should be around 70 characters long.

1) like I said above, your title tag is displayed on the search engine results page.

2) your webpage title tag will determine if people actually click through to your website. So make the title catchy and relevant!

Meta Descriptions … for non nerds

The meta description is an HTML attribute that provides a brief summary of a web page.

Search engines such as Google often display the meta description—usually around and up to 160 characters long—in search results where they can highly influence user click-through rates.

Think of it as a small summary of your webpage. Don’t just copy and past say the first paragraph of your page. Write a good summary for the meta description.

Way back in 2009 google announced that meta descriptions and meta keyword tags have nothing to do with page ranking any longer. However they are still key to high click through rates!

And if it’s not obvious: it’s important that meta descriptions on each page be unique.

Header tags

H1, H2, and H3 header tags are still super important. You want to make sure that the title of your page is the H1 and so forth. But just to check on all of that would be good. Don’t stuff keywords into headers.

Simple handling of H tags is often more manageable than ‘optimal’ and a lot easier to achieve with most of the benefits, and there is often no exact way to treat any specific SEO element in every instance.

Use headers when it makes since. Don’t fill your page with H1 headers. I personally mix it up. I always use 1 H1 hearer and then for the rest I typically use H2 headers. It really depends on what I am doing with CSS.

  • Be hyper-relevant to a specific topic (usually a product or single object)
  • Include keyword in title tag
  • Include keyword in URL
  • Include keyword in h1, h2, and h3 tags … but don’t force them.
  • Include keyword in image alt text
  • Specify subject several times throughout text content
  • Provide keyword content about a given subject
  • Link back to its category page
  • Link back to its subcategory page (If applicable)
  • Link to other pages (internal links) on your website.
  • Link back to its homepage (normally accomplished with an image link showing the website logo on the top left of a pageZ)
